Just as we all knew it would, the drug and alcohol clearinghouse proposed by the DOT has finally made its way through the White House's Office of Management and Budget. The approval was upheld at the White House for quite a bit longer than was expected and has been under review since March 26h, 2013. Privacy issues and other legal mumbo jumbo held up the review. As of now, the ruling is simply waiting to be finalized. The purpose of the clearinghouse is to allow for potential employers to search the database for their potential drivers to find information on the employees past failures of drug or alcohol tests. The goal of the clearinghouse database is to make sure that applicants are no longer able to conceal past testing failures when they apply for a new job.
