ACT Research: Class 8 Used Truck Sales Pull Back in January
COLUMBUS, IN – Total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks fell to to 2,239 units in January, a decline of 12% month over month and 3% year over year, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.
“The pull back in volumes was in line with a seasonal pattern we’ve seen in four of the last six Januarys,” said Steve Tam, Vice President-Commercial Vehicle Sector with ACT. “All three segments of the market – auction, retail, and wholesale – experienced slowing.”
Tam said that pricing was up 7% year over year, even though the average age rose by 1%. “Two catalysts that will keep a lid on pricing growth this year are tougher comparisons and, hopefully, some relief on the inventory front,” he added.
The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles, and age based on a sample of industry data. In addition the report provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEM’s – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).
