How States are Raising Funds for Highway Funding

Yet another talk about funding the highways and how the states will find the funds to do so. Some of the ideas on the table include more tolls on highways, as well as turning to the private sector for funding. Individual states are required to fill the funding gap, caused by depleted federal government sources.  Federal funding to the States' DOTs is down 22%. One way that may help funding is public-private partnerships or “P3” deals, where by private firms invest in transportation projects alongside state and local governments, and will use subsequent highway tolls in order to reimburse the costs.
